Canada is 150 years old this year and Country Thunder Craven celebrated their new beginning. The main stage kicked off Friday July 14, 2017 with Ryan Hurd. Hurd is a songwriter for a lot of big stars like Toby Keith, Blake Shelton, Dierks Bentley, Jake Owen and a lot of other stars, plus he also sings a lot of great songs himself. Next up was Meghan Patrick. She is a Canadian singer-songwriter from Ontario. In 2016 she released her debut album “Grace and Grit”. Next, Locash (Chris and Preston) hit the stage, a great duo singing a lot of their songs from there album “ The Fighters”. Old Dominion came on in the evening. They are a five member band formed in Nashville. To end the great day, Blake Shelton came on. Shelton brought the crowd to their feet. He is a coach on “ The Voice” and a songwriter. Country Thunder Craven was so pleased to have Blake close our Friday night show. Saturday, July 15, The Washboard Union is a Canadian band that opened the day with a blast of fun. Next up was James Baker Band from Ontario consisting of James Baker, Taylor Abram, Connor Stephen and Bobby Martin. Then Cassondra Pope came on stage. She was a leading vocalist of the rock band “Hey Monday” but now has a solo career. She was on the third season of “The Voice”. Dallas Smith performed next. Smith is a Canadian solo vocalist. His debut album is “Jumped Right In”. To finish off Saturday, Toby Keith stormed on stage and captured the crowd with his old and new songs.
To Close the Country Thunder Craven Festival 2017 on Sunday was Cold Creek Country, a Ontario group. Formed since 2013, their name came naturally as they crossed Cold Creek to get to each other’s homes. Then next up we had another Canadian group called High Valley with two brothers (Brad and Chris Rempel). They grew up in a family oriented Mennonite Community. Next up was Terri Clark. She is a well known country music artist in both Canada and Untied States. Her first release was in 1995 and all her fans have loved her ever since. To close the great festival was Keith Urban, who was born in New Zealand, and released his first album in Australia. He has performed around the world and closed Country Thunder with a warm standing crowd ovation.
