9th Annual Wrangler/City of Hope Celebrity Softball Challenge

Bryan White, Lee Ann Womack and Neal McCoy were just a few of the celebrity players that attended the 9th Annual Wrangler/City of Hope Celebrity Softball Challenge wa held June 13, 1999, at Greer Stadium in Nashville, TN. The team captains were from Nashville country radio leaders WSIX and WSM-FM. The star-studded, fun-filled event which has raised over one million dollars for the City of Hope National Medical Center and the Beckman Research Institute.

NFL players Al Del Greco and Frank Wycheck took to the field to challenge the country music superstars. Prime Time Country's Gary Chapman and country superstar Kenny Rogers served as on field play-by-play hosts of the event. The WSM-FM and WSIX staffers also competed with the celebrity players in the seven inning game.

This years WSIX lineup included: Bryan White, Mark Wills, Lonestar, Chely Wright, Gary Allen, Ricochet, Cledus T. Judd, Montgomery-Gentry, David Kersh, Jason Sellers, Claudia Church, Matt King, Mila Mason, Ken Mellons, Jessica Andrews, Shannon Brown, Suzy Bogguss, Davis Daniel and Frank Wycheck of the Tennessee Titans.

The WSM-FM team included: Lee Ann Womack, Bill Anderson, John Berry, Paul Brandt, T. Graham Brown, Andy Griggs, Neal McCoy, Shane Minor, Lorrie Morgan, Brad Paisley, Kevin Sharp, South Sisty-Five, Doug Superstar, Rick Trevino, Trini Triggs, The Wades, The Wilkinsons and Al Del Greco of the Tennessee Titans.

Dubbed the "unofficial kick-off to Fan Fair week," the event continues to raise funds and awareness for the City of Hope and the Beckman Research Institute in its commitment to prevent life-threatening diseases such as cancer, diabetes and AIDS. The proceeds also support the humanitarian efforts of "The Spirit of Life" endowment Fund for Middle Tennesseeans who need the quality care and treatment provided by the City of Hope. TNN taped the game for a special telecast with play-by-play coverage by Neal McCoy and Kenny Rogers.
