CHELY WRIGHT-A TROUPER FOR U.S. TROOPS

Chely Wright to Perform at War Memorial Dedication This Weekend

NASHVILLE, Tennessee-Singer, songwriter, national recording artist and American patriot Chely Wright has spent her lifetime supporting our nation's troops. Wright, whose grandfather served in the Army during World War II, father in the Navy during the Vietnam War, and whose brother is currently an active U.S. Marine, has traveled on numerous occasions to visit bases in Holland, Germany, Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait to perform for enlisted men and women and their families.  Chely has pledged to say, "As long as there are boots on the ground, I will be there supporting them."

This weekend, Chely continues to avow her commitment.  She will perform at a War Memorial Dedication and Ceremony hosted by The Kiski Valley Armed Forces Veterans & Patriot Association.  The dedication and ceremony will be held Saturday, May 26, in Leechburg, PA [in the parking area of Giant Eagle and Century 21 on Towne Center Drive].  This is the first memorial dedication to loved ones lost in the Iraq War in the Leechburg/Pittsburgh, PA area.

Dedicated to local fallen heroes [in memory Army Staff Sgt. Stevon Booker, Army Spc. Joshua Justice Henry, Army Spc. William Sturges and Marine Sgt. Lonny Wells], this memorial is personal for Wright.  During her second visit to Iraq, Chely had the honor to meet and spend time with Joshua Henry. Joshua lost his life the very next morning in a convoy attack. (KIA Sept. 2004). It was Josh Henry who encouraged Chely to record her 2005 hit "The Bumper Of My S.U.V."  The single debuted at No. 1 on the Top Country Singles Sales Chart and No. 5 on the Hot 100 Sales Chart. "Bumper" was the No. 1 selling single for nine consecutive weeks on the Billboard Country Sales Chart. The corresponding music video is dedicated in memory of the young soldier.  Chely later accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Henry to Germany to attend posthumous awards presentation for Army Spc. Joshua Justice Henry.

"I understand the sacrifice and feel the loss that the Henry's [and all the families of the enlisted] feel every day," said Wright. "There is nothing more unselfish than the act of giving a life to allow us all a life that we are 'free' to enjoy.  This weekend, and always, we should 'remember' those men and women who sacrifice their lives so that we can live ours.
